Crystal Pite | Polaris
Created in response to Thomas Adès’ vast and formidable Polaris. A cast of 60 dancers in the spiralling structures inspired by Adès’ creation, and an ensemble of 65 musicians playing in the orchestra pit and in the auditorium. Filmed with three cameras, clear and crisp sound recording throughout the auditorium by brilliant Mike Hatch of Floating Earth.
Polaris was the breathtaking culmination of Sadler’s Wells’ See the Music, Hear the Dance, an evening of Thomas Adès’ music, in which the composer conducts the Britten Sinfonia and, in the two chamber pieces, plays the piano. The four dance works are choreographed by Wayne McGregor, Karole Armitage, Alexander Whitley and Crystal Pite.
Multi-camera live recording at Sadler’s Wells, London, November 2014.
